Find it!

How many people use Facebook?

Conversation A

(Amy and Tom are at the mall. They are watching a video on a computer.)
Tom: That video is amazing!
Amy: Yes! That is so interesting.
(Emma walks up.)
Emma: What is so interesting?
Amy: We just watched a video. It was about how people keep in touch.
Tom: People's habits have really changed.
Emma: How?
Amy: People send fewer e-mails than they used to.
Emma: I still send e-mails.
Tom: Some universities don't even give students e-mail addresses anymore!
Emma: Why not?
Amy: Students keep in touch by using websites.

Conversation B

Emma: Do they send Facebook messages?
Amy: Yes, and they use other websites too. Also, teenagers in America send a lot of text
messages.
Emma: How many?
Amy: Each teenager sends about 3,000 each month!
Emma: Are you kidding? What else did you learn from the video?
Amy: News travels faster than before.
Tom: Right. People share information on Facebook, YouTube and other websites.
Emma: The world is becoming smaller, isn't it?
Tom: Yes! Here. (shows computer to Emma) Look at this website.

How do people share news and keep in touch? They use tools like radios, TVs, and theInternet . But when these tools were invented, they did not become popular right away. How long did it take these tools to have 50 million users?

Radio: After 38 years, 50 million people were listening to it.
TV: After 13 years, 50 million people were watching it.

The Internet: After only four years, 50 million people were using it.

What about Facebook? It was even faster. After only nine months, 100 million people were using Facebook! Each day, Facebook users share more than 1.5 million pieces of information. They share news, pictures, and more. And today, Facebook has more than 400 million users!
