Where is Tom's mother?
(Amy is sitting outside the mall. Tom comes over.)
Tom: Hi, Amy. May I use your phone?
Amy: Don't you have a phone?
Tom: Yes, but I can't find it.
Amy: OK, I can lend you my phone.
Tom: Thank you. (calls someone)
Amy: (looks at the phone) Hey, you're dialing your number.
Amy: Why are you calling your own number?
Tom: So I can find my phone.
(They hear a ringing sound.)
Tom: There's my phone. (pulls his phone from his jacket)
Amy: Your phone is in your jacket pocket.
(Later, Tom is sitting outside the mall. He sees Jack.)
Tom: Hey, Jack. May I borrow your phone?
Jack: Why? Don't you have a phone?
Tom: Yes. But my phone's battery is dead.
Jack: OK. You can borrow my phone. (gives him the phone)
Tom: (takes the phone) Thank you! I love iPhones! (dials a number)
Jack: Who are you calling?
Tom: I am calling my mother.
Tom: I miss her. She is traveling in Europe now.
Jack: She is in Europe? Give me my phone! (takes the phone)
Tom: Why? What's wrong?
Jack: You are making an expensive phone call!
Tom: I am?
Jack: Yes. A cell phone call to another country is expensive.
Jack: You can borrow someone's phone. But be polite. Tell them about your call first.
Jack: And don't talk too long. That is not polite.
Tom: I understand. Can I please call my mother? I won't talk long.
Jack: All right.
